Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I have always wanted to become a paediatrician and have been fortunate enough to work in this field for more than 10 years now. I especially love consulting parents and babies in their first year of life. I love watching how the relationship forms throughout the year and how babies change from being helpless bundles to strong-minded characters.
Our first daughter was born in July 2019 and I have thoroughly enjoyed seeing her grow and develop. Combining work and family hasn’t come easy and I am still not sure if I always strike the right balance.
One of my most favourite things to do is cook with my husband and daughter and enjoy a delicious meal with them.
Why did you start Little Tummy?
The range of baby food products available from supermarket shelves has always outraged me. Not only do they lack taste and nutrients but they are extremely high in sugar, which can be detrimental to children’s health. When I heard about the cold-pressure method (HPP) being used for baby meals, I immediately thought this was my way to change the world of baby food for the better. It has been a real rollercoaster ride but I haven’t regretted a single second.
What do you love most about the Little Tummy meals?
I love that I can bring my work ethics and honesty into the recipe development. Every ingredient has a purpose and their combination makes them work together in a smart way. For example, we use red lentils as a source of protein and iron. The mango in our Sweet Potato, Mango & Red Lentil meal contains Vitamin C, which helps with iron absorption. Our cold-pressure method retains micronutrients and the delicious flavour of our ingredients. This is what baby food should look and taste like in the 21st century.
You explain a lot of background information in your posts. Why is this?
In my clinical work, I have experienced that it is easier for parents to make a decision for their children when they base this decision on facts and information. Unfortunately, the children’s food space is full of misinformation, which is extremely confusing for parents. Little Tummy gives me the opportunity to give evidence-based information to a great number of parents so they are able to make their own decisions.
